Youth Ministry Assistant

First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville, NC is seeking a Youth Ministry Assistant (part time staff position, 25 hours per week) to begin service on June 5, 2017.  Hendersonville is a picturesque small town, just south of Asheville in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. We are a vibrant congregation with an abiding passion for missional engagement and a deep commitment to nurturing our youth as they develop a meaningful and lasting faith as disciples of Christ.

The Youth Ministry Assistant will work closely with our Director of Youth Ministry in all facets of our ministry to 6th – 12th graders:

  • Sunday evening youth program (supper, games, worship, small groups)
  • Sunday morning and mid-week small groups
  • Monthly group outings
  • Summer mission trips (domestic and international)
  • Local service projects
  • High school and middle school retreats

Our Sunday evening program averages 60-70 in attendance and routinely attracts youth from outside our church.

Our ideal candidate possesses:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and/or comparable experience in leading and serving within a congregation
  • Experience working with adolescents (paid or volunteer)
  • Highly developed relational skills with a passion for walking alongside youth in their faith journeys
  • An understanding of and commitment to the theology and traditions of the United Methodist faith and the willingness to model the core values of our church
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to ensure timely and effective communications with parents and participants through weekly email blasts, newsletters, etc.
  • Competency in the effective and appropriate use of social media and technology
  • Organizational skills, as well as the willingness to take the initiative and accept accountability
  • The ability to recruit, train and inspire volunteers
  • A collaborative spirit to work as part of a ministry team

Youth Program Director

Toccoa First United Methodist Church in Toccoa, GA is seeking a director for its youth program.  The position involves 20-25 hours a week with variable hours each week in direct contact with the church’s youth.  Toccoa is located in Northeast Georgia along the South Carolina border and approximately 45 minutes from the North Carolina border.  Toccoa FUMC is a church of over 750 members in downtown Toccoa.   Applicants should have a sound understanding of Methodist theology and have a creative and visionary spirit along with a passion for ministering to youth.

Director of Youth Ministries

We are seeking a Director of Youth Ministries (full time) to join our staff at Reveille United Methodist Church in Richmond, Va.  If you are youth ministry leader who has an authentic trust in God, a strong background in scripture and United Methodist theology, and a desire to build disciples of Jesus Christ through teaching, worship, fellowship, and mission, we would like to learn more about you.

The Director of Youth Ministries at Reveille UMC leads, manages, and nurtures ministries that support the spiritual growth of youth in grades six through 12. The director partners with our Youth Council of adults and youth from the congregation, clergy, and other staff, to create opportunities for youth to connect and engage with each other, the congregation, and the community, as they grow their faith, participate fully in worship, and serve their neighbors and God.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to relate to youth and be skilled in leading discussions with young people with emphasis on where God fits into their lives. He or she will be dedicated to developing Christian youth leaders and incorporating youth fully into the life of the congregation.

The qualified candidate will have a commitment to Jesus Christ and to the church as his body performing God’s work, with experience in youth ministry leadership. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and demonstrated strong knowledge of Wesleyan/United Methodist theology are required.  An advanced theological degree is preferred. A successful background check is required for this position prior to hire.

Director of Youth Ministry

First United Methodist Church is located in the historic town of Crawfordsville, IN. The church is seeking a full-time Director of Youth Ministry and Contemporary Worship to oversee two ministries – youth ministry and contemporary worship. It is understood that there will be times where time and energy will be given to one ministry over another ministry but that it will balance itself out in the end.

As the Director of the Youth Ministry, this person shall seek to foster Christian community through building relationships with young people in grades 6 through 12 that strengthen their commitment to the church and growth in faith in Jesus Christ. The youth ministry team includes weekly volunteers as well as the Youth Advisory Board. The program is comprised of Youth Group, including small group breakouts, special events, Sunday morning youth education, and service opportunities.

As the Contemporary Worship Coordinator, s/he will be the “producer” of each Gathering worship service and special programs. This involves working collaboratively and mentoring worship leaders as well as the worship band.

The ideal candidates will have a deep and living relationship with Jesus Christ, a call to minister to youth, gifts in leadership and vision, musical ability to lead worship with an instrument, a Bachelor’s degree and two years of volunteer or paid youth ministry experience.

Youth Pastor/Director

Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Greensboro NC is searching for a Youth Pastor/Director

STATUS: Full-time, Salaried

BENEFITS: Per TUMC Personnel Policy

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION: To work in concert with the Senior Pastor and staff to achieve the mission of TUMC which is “to equip disciples to go lead others to Christ.”

SUPERVISION: Reports to the Senior Pastor. The Staff Parish Relations Committee provides an annual evaluation of the Youth Pastor’s performance.

Organizational Relationship and Ministry Supervision:

  • The Youth Pastor is accountable to the Senior Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee for ministry guidance.
  • The Youth Pastor will collaborate with church staff and key lay leaders to integrate the youth ministry into the overall life of the church.
  • At the direction of the Senior Pastor,
    • Provides spiritual leadership and subject matter expertise to other staff members;
    • Develops strategic guidance, project plans, and intermediate steps necessary to facilitate spiritual and numerical growth for TUMC.
    • Networks with community and local churches to develop partnerships.
  • The Youth Pastor will be responsible and subject to United Methodist doctrine, informed by the United Methodist local church policy as determined by the Senior Pastor, and Staff Parish Relations Committee.

Duties and Responsibilities

Youth Ministry: (Primary)

  • Works with ministry leaders to ensure they receive appropriate development and training, provides necessary support to leaders so that they can foster and nurture their volunteers, connects leaders throughout the church.
  • Manages the youth ministry and directs the employees and volunteers dedicated to serving the various ministries for which the Youth Pastor carries primary responsibility.
    • Strategic leadership of a comprehensive student ministry plan.
    • Deliberately builds relationships with all our youth and their families.
    • Leads and organizes effective youth programs implementing fellowship, worship, biblical teaching, discipleship, and evangelism, as well as ministry and mission opportunities.
    • Maintains regular and appropriate communication with students, parents, and the church and community via church media (i.e., bulletin, website, etc.) and other avenues including social media.
    • Oversees the creation and maintenance of the student ministries areas budget.
    • Recruits, equips and shepherds volunteer youth counselors and Sunday School Teachers
    • Demonstrates a willingness to practice incarnation ministry, meeting youth and young people where they are and connecting broadly in the community, and specifically in our local schools.

Worship: (Situational)

  • At the direction of the Senior Pastor, and appropriate committees
    • Participates in planning, implementation and review of worship services/activities.

Bible Studies:

  • At the direction of the Senior Pastor,
    • Develops effective communication methods to promote awareness of Bible Study opportunities at TUMC.
    • Actively participates as a Bible Study leader/facilitator at TUMC.

Pastoral and Administrative:

  • The Youth Pastor will assist the Senior Pastor with
    • Visitations– hospitals, visitors, members – both active and inactive, shut-ins.
  • The Youth Pastor will maintain scheduled office hours each week to be available to the Senior Pastor, committees, staff and TUMC membership.
    • Attends and reports on assigned ministries at meetings of the Church Council;
    • Attends weekly staff meetings;
    • Assists with “walk-ins” from community
  • The Youth Pastor will use social media and technology effectively and appropriately to enhance both youth and congregational ministry.

Qualifications and Aptitudes:

The Youth Minister must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and/or comparable experience leading and serving in a congregation.
  • Embraces the doctrine and teachings of the United Methodist Church/Wesleyan tradition.
  • A vital, lively and joyful commitment to the Christian faith and the ability to model faithfully the core values of the congregation.
  • A passionate desire to relate to youth and young people and help them form and nurture an authentic, meaningful and lasting faith as disciples.
  • A creative, engaging and innovative spirit, grounded in scripture.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates willingness to work cooperatively with others, to maintain a positive disposition, and to be flexible in solving problems.
