Music Director and Organist

Lutheran Church of the Nativity – Arden, NC seeks a Music Director and Organist

Part-time or Full-time: Full-time position

Basic Description: Lutheran Church of the Nativity is seeking a musician who is able to enhance the worship life of the congregation through her/his musical leadership. We are a congregation accustomed to worshiping in a style that is both traditional and varied. We value a wide variety of musical styles and we are proud of the diversity of worship experienced here in the course of each liturgical year. Our congregation is blessed with a number of musically gifted parishioners, enabling us to offer a variety of choral and instrumental opportunities. The number of parishioners willing to sing in the choir has declined over the last few years, so we are seeking someone who is willing to help us rebuild. In addition to the organ and piano in the sanctuary, our congregation also has a five-octave handbell set, a three-octave chime set, three timpanis, multiple wind instrument players in the congregation, some stringed instrument players in the congregation, and a variety of other percussion instruments that are occasionally used. Finally, our congregation has a large youth presence, so youth and children’s choirs will be an important part of this position. For about the last 15 years, our congregation has enjoyed an annual youth musical, and we hope to continue that tradition in the future. We expect the musician to play at our two Sunday morning worship services (both are identical), as well as seasonal midweek evening prayer worship services, and all major festival occasions. Choir rehearsals are expected on Wednesday evenings, Sunday afternoons, and any other time as needed. In addition to Sunday morning worship and afternoon rehearsals, the musician is expected to have office hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, which allows for planning and collaboration. Thursdays-Saturdays are available for personal rehearsals and rest, though the sanctuary instruments are available for individual lessons, should the musician desire to teach on these days. This position includes vacation, retirement, health care (offered for the musician, though immediate family may purchase if desired), and continuing education. All inquiries welcome!

How to Apply: Interested persons should first email the search committee by contacting search@nativityarden.org. A full job description will be attached to the email response. Candidates should be prepared to submit a cover letter, resume, and reference contact information.
