Position Status: Regular/Full-Time

The mission of Lake Junaluska is to be a place of Christian hospitality where lives are transformed
through renewal of soul, mind and body.

Essential Functions:

  • Overall responsibility for identifying, planning, promoting, and implementing all programs for
    which Lake Junaluska has direct responsibility including children, youth, and adult programming;
    worship experiences; the Lake Junaluska Singers; special events; and programs with volunteer
    partner groups
  • Hiring and supervising full-time and part-time staff to fulfill the mission of Lake Junaluska and to
    meet or exceed the specific annual goals of the department
  • Build and strengthen relationships with United Methodist leaders, as well as those of other
    denominations, with the ultimate outcome to increase participation in events at Lake Junaluska
  • Identify emerging programming opportunities for appropriate past, current, and future
    constituents of Lake Junaluska
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive assessment program to monitor the effectiveness of
    implemented programming in accomplishing agreed upon goals
  • Participate as an integral member of the Executive Team which has responsibility for the overall
    management of Lake Junaluska Assembly, Inc.
  • Create annual revenue and expense budgets and manage to meet or exceed the annual budget
  • Partner with the Lake Junaluska Marketing Department to promote programming to targeted
  • Assure compliance with appropriate safety policies, practices and procedures for all
    programming with particular emphasis on those for children and youth

  • Significant positive experience in managing and leading staff to accomplish agreed upon goals
  • Evidence of being mission driven and team oriented
  • Experience in planning and implementing programming analogous to that which will be
    provided at Lake Junaluska
  • Significant success in creating visionary programming that meets the needs of the church and society
  • Evidence of being a risk-taking boundary-pushing leader
  • Exceptional interpersonal communications skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in using social media to effectively share information and to promote engagement
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Ability to manage crises through creative problem solving and excellent guest services skills
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent
  • Intimate knowledge of and experience with The United Methodist Church and its leaders

Working conditions:

  • Moderate physical activity performing non-strenuous activities with quiet to moderate noise
  • Well-lighted, heated, and air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation
  • Ability to coordinate work, frequently moves about, able to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, talk to and hear staff and customer requests, and also lifts or otherwise move objects weighing up to 30 pounds
  • At times, be outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Adequate vision to carry out daily activities
  • Hours worked include normal daily hours but also evening and weekend hours when programming requires presence
