Central United Methodist Church/Shelby, North Carolina is seeking a Director of Discipleship and Outreach

Job Summary

Initiate, coordinate and sustain new ministries of Central United Methodist Church designed to engage adults and families with emphasis on spiritual formation, new member assimilation and community outreach

Qualifications

  • Ordained United Methodist Church deacon or pursuing ordination
  • Deep, personal faith in Jesus Christ, seeking to know, love and serve God
  • An advocate of United Methodist theology and doctrine
  • A passion and vision for spiritual growth including connecting, equipping and deploying volunteers
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and manage outreach opportunities that emphasize involvement in worship, small groups and local missions
  • Excellent organization and administrative skills including a working knowledge of computer software including Excel, Word, publishing and social media sites

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate adult and family ministries
  • Cultivate relationships with adults and families that encourage greater participation
  • Identify, develop and nurture outreach opportunities consistent with the mission of Central United Methodist Church
  • Encourage intergenerational activities
  • Create and inspire an atmosphere of service
  • Serve as liaison to other churches and organizations
  • Attend staff meetings and other relevant church committees; report directly to Senior Pastor
  • Keep accurate records and provide necessary reports regarding mission and outreach

General Leadership

  • Connect the congregation to the broader church and community
  • Recruit, train and support laity to work with adults, families and children
  • Manage all assigned programs within an established budget
