Director of Client Relations

The United Methodist Foundation of Western North Carolina, Inc., located in Huntersville, NC, is looking for a new Director of Client Relations.  The United Methodist Foundation of Western North Carolina, Inc. is one of the largest foundations in United Methodism.  Our Foundation’s ministries and financial services continue to grow as we serve with the mission to build the Church for generations to come.  We are a team-oriented staff of nine and are looking forward to welcoming a new member. General Description:

To cultivate relationships with prospective clients and nurture relationships with existing clients of the United Methodist Foundation of Western North Carolina, Inc. with special emphasis on the ministries of planned giving, the UMF Loan Program/Development Fund, and the UMF fund options with the ultimate goal being an increase in total assets and relationships in these areas.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience and/or direct knowledge of church ministries or similar 501(c)(3)s

Experience and/or general knowledge related to planned giving.  Certification/participation in trade-related organizations is desired

Experience and/or general knowledge related to commercial lending.  History related to building and location requirements as stated in the Book of Discipline and experience with District Committees on Church Location and Building a plus

Computer skills – ability to effectively use general Microsoft programs; i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, PowerPoint, etc. Proficiency in CRM software, Crescendo or other planned giving programs is desired

Excellent communication skills – ability to converse with financial planners/advisors, tax attorneys, clergypersons, and  CPA’s

Knowledge, ability and/or desire to stay abreast of taxation law and estate planning techniques  through continuing education events

Willingness to travel throughout The Western North Carolina Conference and beyond to fulfill the requirements of the position

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college or university is required



Work regularly scheduled hours of operation for the United Methodist Foundation of Western North Carolina, Inc. and as needed to complete responsibilities pertaining to position. Travel is a necessary component of this position’s work.

Responsibilities (include yet are not limited to):

Working with Individual Donors by:

    • Promoting and executing the planned giving vehicles offered by the Foundation such as:
      • Charitable Gift Annuities
      • Charitable Remainder Annuity Trusts
      • Charitable Remainder Unitrusts
      • Charitable Remainder Lead Trusts
      • Donor Advised Funds
      • Endowments
    • Increasing awareness of charitable bequests through estate planning
      • 1-on-1 and group presentations outlining benefits
    • Encouraging individual participation/investment in the UMF Development Fund
      • Interpret program through use of circular
    • Educating through example and presentations on the importance of good stewardship

Working with Churches and Church-Related Institutions by:

    • Helping congregations raise awareness of planned giving to benefit their congregations through presentations
    • Promoting sound, theological stewardship awareness within the life of the Congregation
    • Encouraging participation in the UMF Development Fund/Loan program
      • Interpretation of circular for Development Fund with ultimate goal of participation through investment
      • Interpretation of the UMF Building and Loan Manual
      • Other correspondence as necessary
    • Encouraging participation in the UMF fund options as outlined in the current UMF Investment Policy Statement (IPS)
      • Interpretation of IPS with ultimate goal of participation through investment
      • Provide annual reviews (and when necessary) to existing fund management clients


    • Attend Annual Conference
      • Assist with Foundation displays and ordering promotional gifts
      • Interact with clients and potential clients
      • Production of Annual Report that is distributed at Annual Conference
    • Represent Foundation at various meetings, events, luncheons, etc.
    • Production of newsletters, brochures, publicity pieces, etc.
    • Maintain Website, Facebook
